I believe that teenagers do not learn judgement if there are no consequences to their actions. If we do not denounce what they say or do then they will assume that the society at least tolerates or even approves of their actions or statements. This is not helpful in shaping their lives. We do not get a more respectful society if we ignore bad behavior.

I find it impossible to believe that these teenagers did not know that online posts could be harmful to their reputations. There has been too much coverage of the negitive impact of online posts on peoples lives.

Lack of prefrontal cortex maturity cannot be used to excuse for bad behavior. At 14 or 15 or 16 I knew that if I had publicly done something offensive that got my name in the newspapers, I would be facing the fall out of such activity and so I did not engage in it. In short my parents had instilled impluse control. I view Jezebel’s posts as a way to provide the impluse control that parents are unwilling to provide themselves.
